“Come Camera Ready”
3 words that used to strike fear in my heart LOL! Thankfully I’ve been working hard this past year to step up my makeup skills. As talents we can’t always depend on the hair or makeup artist on set…also depending on the production there may not even be one available. That however is no excuse. There are a million YouTube tutorials, classes, blog posts to take you step by step. Here are my 3 tips for showing up on set “camera ready”:
1. Find the right foundation.
Good skin coverage is KEY for on camera work. Take a friend with you to the drugstore or invest in a professional application at a makeup counter to find a good full coverage foundation. My go to these days: Maybelline Fit Me (330 – Toffee)
2. Learn how to do a basic neutral eye.
This is not the time for experimental makeup 🙂 Browns, earth tones with light shading work very well. Finish off with eyeliner and mascara and you’re good to go.
3. WEAR LIPSTICK AND BLUSH (yes all caps is necessary!)
Lipstick and blush give your face definition and dimension so that you won’t look “flat” on camera. Soft bronzer, coral, light pink, peachy tones work well for all skin colors. Lipsticks with a hint of color (or bolder depending on the directions given from production) are a must. You want to always “pop” on camera and look your best.
Bonus tip: Do practice runs of your makeup and take photos and video of yourself to see how it looks on camera. It gets easier but only if you practice!
